The organisers of the Lurgan Park 10k fun run which is being held on Sunday, February 23, at 10am in aid
of the Southern Area
Hospice Services have added a 5k run and 1k Buggy Push for families.

The event is being organised by two Lurgan men, David Wilson and Tony McKeown, who are also taking part in this year’s London Marathon to raise funds for the Southern Area Hospice.

David, who teaches in St Michael’s Grammar School, said: “We are expecting a good turnout on the day. We have got great support from local sporting clubs and fitness centres as well as local businesses. For example staff at McDonald’s SuperValu store on the Gilpinstown Road are entering the event as well as helping raise funds in store.

“The local council staff has been very supportive too and we are grateful for them letting us use their facilities. We would encourage runners to register online in advance of the event. If you can’t register online, you can register on the day at the cricket pavilion until 9.45am.”

Southern Area Hospice Services was founded in 1989 as a 6-bedded unit and has since expanded to become a 12-bed in-patient unit, which serves the entire Southern Health Board Region. The unit operates 24 hours a day throughout the year and is the heart of the hospice, caring for many people since its opening.
