Lurgan abattoir Oakdale Meats up for sale for £1.5m

Oakdale Meats’ Lurgan abattoir had already attracted interest from potential buyers said commercial property agents Osborne King.

The 1.4 acre site on Annesborough Road is set up for the slaughter of cattle, sheep and deer.

It’s close to another premises run by Irish meat giant ABP, also on Annesborough Industrial Estate.

Oakdale Meats also has premises on the Coalisland Road in Dungannon.

Jonathan Keys of Osbore King said: “To date, we have had interest from parties who already run an abattoir and wish to expand their business as well as individuals who are new to the industry from throughout the UK and Ireland.

“The opportunity is particularly lucrative to meat wholesalers who currently do not have animal slaughter facilities and wish to cut down the cost of their raw materials.”

He added: “The sale presents a unique opportunity to acquire an abattoir business with potential for growth under new ownership taking on the licenses, planning permissions and goodwill that the business already possesses.”

Oakdale Meats has been in business since 1973 and is part of Dungannon & District Co-op.

The proposed sale of its Lurgan premises comes at a time of change for the meat industry in Northern Ireland.

Dunbia, which is also in Co Tyrone, was last month reported to be entering into a joint venture with 2 Sisters in England, with their red meat operations joining forces.

Its pork operation had been linked to a possible sale to Danish Crown or Cranswick.
