Lurgan Heritage Open Days launched

History and culture will be brought to life with over 300 property openings and events. A host of historic buildings will open their doors to the public, many for 10 and 11 September only. This year’s programme features a wide variety of special events such as walking tours, history re-enactments and film screenings.

Minister Givan said: “Organised by my Department, it is very apt that this year’s theme across Europe is ‘Heritage Communities’. Locations in the Lurgan area opening include the Barn Museum and Brownlow House.”

The Barn Museum is a beautifully restored stone outbuilding beside Fairview House within Tannaghmore Gardens, just outside Lurgan. The lower two galleries accommodates the Blacksmithing and Farm machinery exhibitions. The upper three galleries accommodates exhibitions on milking life, machinery and artefacts, rural schooling and the local shop.

Brownlow House was built in 1833 and was the ancestral home of the Brownlow Family. This fabulous Grade A listed building is now open for tours and has two museums on site. Brownlow House will host free walking tours of the building, along with free entry into the two museums. The Tea Rooms will also be open.
