The P6 and P7 rugby teams enjoyed some top successes but are now in need of some financial assistance.

“We decided to go on tour to Scotland and we wanted to make it as affordable as possible and give everyone a chance to go, so we did a variety of fundraisers,” explained Alan Woods, coach and chairman of the Lurgan Tigers.

“An hour before the bus was due to collect twenty-five eager kids and seventeen mums and dads, the Tigers received the news that the bus had crashed and there was no possibility of a replacement.

“With little time to spare, frantic phone calls were made to all parts of the country and we eventually got one to pick us up from Cairnryan. It was all rather expensive, but there was nothing we could do - we couldn’t disappoint the kids.”

Despite the rocky start, the boys made the most of their trip: “They had an absolute ball. The P6s and P7s only lost one match each - they did really, really well.

“Unfortunately there was another cost involved, as one of he boys had to be taken by ambulance to Carlisle after an injury. Thankfully he was alright, but we had to pay a taxi to bring him from Carlisle to Cairnryan to catch the boat!”

In order to make up their funds, the Tigers are holding a quiz this Friday night at 6:30pm in the club, and have launched a campaign at www.crowdfunding.just
