THE Alliance Party has confirmed that Gerry Lynch will stand as its candidate in the forthcoming general election in East Antrim.

Mr Lynch, Executive Director of Alliance since 2007, has been a member of the party for the past 18 years.

East Antrim has always been a strong area for Alliance , and I am delighted to have been selected to run here in the Westminster election.

Northern Ireland needs fresh faces at Westminster. Many people are rightly angry at politicians after the expenses scandals and failure of the Executive to deliver on the issues that matter. Most of us in Northern Ireland want to change politics for the better; to do that we need to replace our politicians with better ones.

Politics should be about solving problems, not waving flags. I want to talk about real issues. Politics is about working with real people, to make government solve their problems rather than creating extra ones,” he said.

“Alliance works for everyone in society, whereas others favour one side of the community or another. Alliance provides solutions where the tribal parties merely cause crises through their dangerous political game-playing.

“In the middle of the biggest economic crisis since the war, we need our politicians to work to create jobs, defend law and order and attract tourism and investment. I will be a strong voice for East Antrim and for Northern Ireland at Westminster,” Mr Lynch added.

A date for the general election hasn’t yet been confirmed, but it is expected to take place in May.
