Mackle congratulates youths

COUNCILLOR Liam Mackle has called on the public to acknowledge the positive aspects of our youth and the contributions they make to society.

The Sinn Féin councillor was speaking after the conclusion of the recent Midnight Street Soccer League.

“The organisers of this League and the young people who took part in it deserve recognition for their commitment and I would take this opportunity to offer my congratulations to the ‘A Team’ who won the competition and to all those others who made it such a success,” he said.

Councillor Mackle pointed out that young people make up a large part of the population of Craigavon, yet we usually hear only of the small percentage that get themselves into trouble by mimicking the behaviour of adults.

“The vast majority of youth spend their time studying, playing sport and helping others. Too often we impose a stereotypical image upon them so that we can use them as a scapegoat for the indifference of society. Those who took part in the soccer league were involved in something positive and deserve acknowledgement.”
