Maggie saw many changes in her 101 years

Maggie, as she was affectionately known, to her many friends and acquaintances had reached the grand age of 101 years.

She suffered a great loss on the passing of her daughter-in-law Rhoda and was the dearly loved wife of the late Bertie Hanna who predeceased her 35 years ago.

She was a woman who was brought up in the Ballyward area and came to live in Banbridge, working in Down Shoes Ltd and then in the Patrisse Coffee Lounge.

A year after she was born the Titanic was launched in Belfast and she saw three monarchs on the throne as well as many changes in Banbridge.

She was a member of Scarva Street Presbyterian Church. No matter when anyone met her she always had a cheery and friendly disposition. She was delighted when she received the card from HM Queen Elizabeth II and also the President of the Irish Republic Mrs Mary McAleese.

On her 101st birthday she received a silver medal from the present President Mr Michael D. Higgins.

She is survived by her son Jim, daughter Mrs Stella Jenkins, son-in-law Keith, five grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place privately on Friday from William Bell and Co Funeral Home to the New Cemetery.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu are being sent to William Bell and Co Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for The Asthma Clinic Banbridge Poly Clinic and Residents Comforts Mountvale Private Nursing Home (Cheques made payable to William Bell and Co)
