Maghaberry Elim rocks to Inflame

MAGHABERRY Elim had a packed church for the Inflame Gospel rock concert to mark the finale of its successful two-week summer scheme.

Inflame is one of Northern Ireland most talented Christian bands and the concert was attended by young people from the Maghaberry locality, Lisburn region, as well as visitors from as far away as north Belfast.

Before the concert the young people and youth leaders tucked into a hearty barbeque of hot dogs and hamburgers served in the adjoining church hall.

Week one of the fortnight of fun was for the nursery and primary school children and featured a craft and games day in the church, with visits to Lisburn cinema, Dundonald Ice Bowl, a farm, and Stormont park with an end of scheme party in the church for the young people and relatives.

Week two was for the teenagers, and also featured a cinema trip and visits to various leisure facilities.

Maghaberry Elim pastor, Mr Brian Madden, said: “The summer scheme marked the conclusion of a very successful series of outreach activities which began a few weeks ago with the visit of international renowned American Country and Western Gospel singer Sharron Kay King.”

“In the middle of the two-week summer scheme, we were blessed with terrific weather for the annual Family Fun Day in the church grounds. The sunshine helped make it one of the best attended since the church launched the event a few years ago.”

“But it was truly great to see so many young people pack the church on Sunday for the Inflame concert. As well as the band playing well known Gospel favourites, they also performed a selection of their own original material.”

Although this is the middle of the school holidays, Maghaberry Elim is also preparing for its annual Bible Week later this month.

The youth leaders are also making initial plans for the new session which begins in September with the Sunday School, senior Bible class, junior and senior youth clubs.

Throughout the summer, the church’s street outreach group, The Soldiers of God, is continuing its Friday evening Christian witness sessions around the Lisburn city region.
