Maghaberry turns purple for charity

MAGHABERRY village turned purple in memory of a local girl.

The ‘Make Maghaberry Purple’ day took place on Friday, March 22, at the ‘Church on the Hill’ and was the second to be organised by local woman Kim Drillingcourt and friends to raise money for Epilepsy Action.

Organiser Kim Drillingcourt said: “The day went brilliantly, even with blizzard conditions. The total raised was £2050 - I had hoped for £1000, which would have doubled what was raised last year, so I am more than overjoyed.”

Kim continued:: “All of this is done in memory of Caroline Humpherson.

“Caroline tragically died on January 4 last year from epilepsy, she was only 23. Caroline’s parents, Jayne and Mervin, have lived in Maghaberry for 30 years and as you can imagine the whole village was affected by her sudden death.

“I want to make Purple Day an annual event so that every year the community can come together and remember Caroline and celebrate her life.”

Kim would like to thank all the local businesses and individuals who have donated items and helped organise the event.
