Maghera Historical Society to bury time capsule at launch

Maghera Historical Society are to celebrate their launch with a time capsule, and they want everybody in the town to submit a photo to the project.

Set up to encourage interest in the historic legacy of the town, the society’s official launch is on March 28 at 1pm in Walsh’s Hotel in Maghera and the Auction Rooms.

Open to everyone from Maghera, they are asking people of all ages to send a snap of something special to them.

This could be your best friend, a building you like, your baby’s first steps, a bad traffic jam, you favourite food, those new shoes or your school class; the list is endless.

Each photograph should be accompanied by a short description (50 words max), with the name, age and address of the photographer, and emailed to magheratime

All of the pictures submitted will be displayed at the launch event and there will be prizes for the best, but there is just one entry per person.

By focussing on the heritage of Maghera the society said it hopes to increase pride in the town and work towards a shared future preserving the best of its cultural traditions.

Chairman of the society, Joseph McCoy said they are also holding a lecture with Bill Forsythe on Harry Ferguson - the inventor of the Ferguson tractor - on Thursday, Feb 26 at 7.30pm at Walsh’s Hotel in Maghera. £5, Children go free.
