Maghera man asks police ‘do you want me to walk 10 miles?’ after urinating on shop

A Maghera man spotted urinating against a shop facade, was fined £90 at Magherafelt Magistrates Court for indecent behaviour.

The court heard Ciaran McCloy, 20, of Ballymacilcurr Road, asked police: “Where do they want me to go, do you want me to walk ten miles?”

A prosecuting lawyer said the incident happened at Rainey Street in Magherafelt around 2.25am on August 14 this year. She said the area was very busy with members of the public at the time and defendant could clearly be seen.

Admitting the offence, Mr Patrick McGuckin, solicitor, said it was an ongoing problem in Magherafelt, after the pubs closed people found themselves unable to avail of toilet facilities.

Mr McGuckin pointed out that defendant was a well qualified young man who has managed to secure full time employment.
