Kyle Simon Marshall (19), of Mullagh Road, Maghera, admitted two counts of possessing class ‘B’ drugs at Oldtown Road, Castledawson, on May 23 last year.

A PPS lawyer said police stopped a car at the Oldtown Road carpark at 1.20pm and spoke to Marshall, who was accompanied by another person. He said officers detected a strong smell of cannabis in the vehicle and this resulted in a search being carried out during which the bag with the powder substance was found.

The lawyer said Marshall and the other person denied any knowledge of the bag, but in interview on May 26 the defendant accepted the bag belonged to him, claiming he had purchased it from an unknown person.
