Maghera playground to get spruce-up

MAGHERA Sinn Féin Councillor Sean Kerr has welcomed news that Magherafelt District Council is to carry out remedial work to the Playground at Maghera Leisure Centre which will enhance the quality of the playground equipment and improve the safety, play value and overall appearance of the playground.

“Upgrading of the Maghera Playground will breathe new life into the area, enhance the imagination of the children and increase the aesthetic value of the playground,” he added.

“Maghera Playground is a well-planned play area which provides unique learning skills where children can grow and expand by using the playground equipment that will help them develop through challenging play.

“Over the years it has become a victim of its own success and, because of the vast amount of usage throughout the years, the overall appearance of the playground has deteriorated. It is at a stage now where the worn appearance of some of the equipment is detracting from the overall value of the area.

“I welcome the fact that the Council is now going to address this issue and undertake remedial works in the early summer of this year.

“I also welcome the recognition of the importance of our local playground to the community; it brings people together, kids interact on the swings and slides, and adults have the opportunity to strike up casual conversations as they watch their kids at play.

“It is a wonderful asset to the town and surrounding area and should be kept as such in order to serve the residents of the area.”
