Maghera roads need ‘major cash injection’ - McFalone

Councillor McFalone said: “This is a busy road that still requires improvement. This road is used daily as a route to Glen Primary School and Tirkane Primary School/Bunscoil Naomh Bríd. The recent completed works involved drainage improvements as well as temporary surfacing of deteriorated road surface.

“I have continued to press Transport NI for better improvements on this road and other rural roads in the wider Maghera area and I am pleased that Department officials have confirmed that Ballyknock Road will be surface dressed this year to seal the road and to improve skid resistance.

“I have had an assessment carried out by department officials for a vehicle restraint system on Ballyknock Road which has been rated as low priority, but upon review Transport NI have recommended that slow markings are renewed on the carriageway and that the chevron sign is replaced.”

Councillor McFalone concluded: “While this work is to be welcomed, there is still a lot of work to be done on our rural roads to bring them up to an acceptable standard. Sinn Féin will continue to lobby on behalf of our constituents to ensure that relevant departments are aware of the continuing shortfalls in our rural areas and the need for major change.”
