Edele McKenna, 21, of Ballymacilcurr Road, Upperlands, was also ordered to pay each of the injured parties, Tiarna and Fiona Hanson, £100.

The court heard the assaults arose out of an incident at a house in Mullaghboy Road, Bellaghy on October 4 last year which police attended.

A PPS lawyer said police spoke to McKenna who had blood on her right hand and she told them it was a cut.

Continuing, counsel said one of the injured parties had a cut to her cheek and scratch marks on her chest, while the other had no injuries.

A defence lawyer pointed out that McKenna maintained the assaults were carried out in self defence.

In a separate matter, McKenna was fined £140 and disqualified from driving for six months on two counts of having no insurance.

The prosecutor explained the offences came to light when police on mobile patrol observed the defendant in a car at the forecourt of a garage in Maghera on October 19. She said defendant saw police and a male with her then drove off in the vehicle.
