Maghera woman scratched car causing £1,500 damage, court told

A woman who scratched a parked car a number of times causing estimated damage of £1,500 appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

Catherine Amanda Silverson (50), of King William III Crescent, Maghera, is accused of criminal damage at Aughrim Road, Magherafelt, on August 17.

A prosecuting lawyer said police attended the incident and spoke to a witness who said he saw the defendant getting out of the passenger seat of a car and damaging his father’s car.

She said the scratches were between eight and 10 inches in length and the damage was estimated at £1,500, although they did not have the exact details of repair costs.

The barrister said police later spoke to Silverson and she during interview she made a full admission.

Defence barrister Liam McStay said the incident had arose out of a relationship which had come across difficulties.

District Judge Alan White ordered a probation report and adjourned the case for a month, warning Silverson that she was at severe risk of going to prison.
