Sinn Féin MLA Ian Milne welcomed the announcement by Regional Development Minster Danny Kennedy.

Mr. Milne stated, “This announcement that work on the Magherafelt bypass will begin in the New Year is good news for the area. Not only will the bypass allow us to develop the town centre by removing heavy traffic but will also add an economic impetus as the bypass is completed.

“The work, which will take about 15 months to complete, will provide much-needed jobs for the construction industry and there will also be a knock-on effect to local businesses.

“I am calling on the Minister to ensure local businesses and suppliers are part of any contract signed this week and that local labour is used in building the bypass.

“I am also calling on the local council to start to plan now on how we can shape and improve Magherafelt when the bypass is finished so that we hit the ground running.”
