Magherafelt crash victim named locally as Christopher Hawe

The young motorist killed in a single vehicle crash near Magherafelt on Thursday evening, has been named locally as Christopher Hawe.

The 20-year-old from Castledawson died after his car crashed along the Tobermore Road at around 6.30pm.

It is understood that Christopher was a former pupil of Magherafelt High School.

Mid Ulster MLA Sandra Overend, expressed her sympathy to the family.

“I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family of the young man who sadly lost his life following an accident on the Tobermore Road on Thursday evening.

“This is yet another tragedy on our roads and another family in Mid-Ulster left devastated by the loss of a loved one.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this sad time.”

Local DUP councillor Paul McLean expressed his shock and sadness.

“This is every parents’ nightmare, and it is impossible to understand the devastation that this accident has inflicted upon this young man’s family,” he said.

“I would to like express my sympathy to them, at this very difficult time.”
