Magherafelt man fined £115 for punching partner in the face

A man accused of punching his partner in the face - leaving her bleeding - after “snapping”, was fined £115 at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

Robert James Caskey (29), of Glenburn Park, Magherafelt, admitted assaulting Michelle Anne Hughes on July 4 this year. Caskey was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to Ms Hughes.

A prosecuting lawyer said police were tasked to an address where an alleged assault occurred. She said the injured party was bleeding and said her partner had punched her once in the mouth.

The lawyer said Caskey was subsequently detained and admitted to pushing the injured party, not punching her.

Defence solicitor Stephen Atherton said defendant had a limited record and nothing “of this unsavoury nature.”

Mr Atherton claimed the relationship between the parties was characterised by alcohol intoxication.
