The Health and Social Care board has said that all relevant details will be made public within eight weeks.

In a statement, the body said the governance review at the Western Trust started in November, and was ongoing.

Tommy Gallagher said he intended to ask questions about the review's remit.

"Something sparks a review, so quite clearly there is some issue of concern. We don't know what it is, or whether there are a number of issues or a single issue.

"I think we need more information about it, because public confidence in and around the delivery of healthcare is very important, and the way this has been done isn't satisfactory."

A spokesperson for the Western Trust said he was unable to comment because the Health and Social Care Board is the lead agency in the case.
