Major road resurfacing underway in Ballyronan

Mid Ulster MLA Sandra Overend, who is Assembly Private Secretary to the Regional Development Minister, detailed the works.

“Danny Kennedy’s announcement of a £170,000 investment to the Ballyronan Road is good news for Ballyronan, and will be warmly welcomed by road users in the village,” she said.

“Resurfacing work is to be completed over the next four weeks to take in approximately 1.5 kilometres from Ballyronan village to the junction with the Oaklea Road, and also includes the resurfacing of a section of footpath along the Ballyronan Road.

“Initially work is to be completed using traffic control, with a road closure required to facilitate the final surfacing of the carriageway.

“The road closure is scheduled to take place on the fourth week of the scheme, with traffic to and from the west of Ballyronan diverted via The Loup along the Ballyneill Road and Ballymulligan Road.

“As ever, motorists are advised to be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.”

DUP Group leader on Mid Ulster District Council Paul McLean welcomed the resurfacing.

He said : “Whilst no one likes disruption or road closures; yet I know; this is a welcomed announcement and long over due. 

“The road surface has been deteriorating rapidly and all the surface dressing has in many ways been cosmetic. 

“The locals in and around the Ballyronan area will be delighted that in the midst of major cutbacks this scheme is going ahead.”
