‘Make pool more family-friendly’ – urges councillor

A LOCAL councillor has called for the minor swimming pool at Larne Leisure Centre to be made more family-friendly.

Ulster Unionist representative Maureen Morrow wants Larne Council to consider putting play equipment into the pool in a bid to attract families with young children to the facility.

At a recent meeting of the council’s leisure committee, Cllr Morrow said: “There have been great improvements at the leisure centre over the past couple of years with the refurbishment of the main pool with new roofing and windows.

“The relocation and extension of the fitness suite has created a state-of-the-art facility, and the opening of the Prom Café has added an extra dimension to the leisure centre.

“However, I think we are missing a trick with the minor pool.

“In both Carrickfergus and Ballyclare there are leisure pools, which are geared towards families with young children, with fountains and slides. They are very popular, and still provide plenty of opportunities for learners.

“I feel that some thought should be given to making some small changes to the minor pool at Larne to make it more family-friendly and to attract more customers.”
