Make use of enhanced rail service - Beggs

Roy Beggs MLA has encouraged commuters to ‘consider using the greatly enhanced rail service’ after the launch of the first new Class 4000 train on the Larne line.

“Anyone who uses the new trains is bound to be impressed with the comfortable, smooth ride,” Mr Beggs said. “From talking to passengers, I know that they are delighted with the new train and are looking forward to the day that all the old 450 trains, with some components dating back to the 1960s, are replaced.”

However, the Ulster Unionist MLA also issued a word of caution regarding the new models. “The new trains are considerably quieter than their predecessors and whilst this is great for those whose travel on them or live near the tracks, it does mean that those using level crossings, such as the busy Whitehead station, must take particular care as they will not hear a train approaching until it is considerably closer than before,” he said.
