'Make your TV vote count for Carrick'

A TELEVISION poll could help secure £50k for a Carrick-based group supporting people with disabilities and their families.

The Belfast Lough Sailability Support Launch project is one of eight seeking to win assistance from the Big Lottery Fund’s People’s Millions contest to be showcased on UTV 22-25 November.

The group is proposing to buy a custom-built launch which would be fully accessible for people with a disability and also to be used as a rescue vessel if necessary. It will go head to head with an initiative which is being developed by the Oh Yeah Music Centre, Belfast, on the third night (Wednesday 24 November).

Participants will make their case for the public’s vote to win funding with the winners being decided in a phone vote. At the end of the week five projects will have won a slice of up to 250,000 of Lottery good cause cash. The best runner-up will win a grant to be the final winner, announced on Friday 26 November.

Voting numbers will be available on the day the projects are due to appear and winners announced the following day.

Frank Hewitt, Big Lottery Fund’s NI Chair, said: “We want UTV viewers to throw their support behind the projects they think has got the community X-Factor. Every vote counts.”
