Making music for UNICEF in Portballintrae

A successful musical evening in Portballintrae on Wednesday, August 20, raised a magnificent total of £1,200 for the work of Unicef (United Nations

Children’s Fund).

Guest artistes, the trio Pipers’ Wyrd from Northumberland, played a wide variety of folk tunes and dance music on the Northumbrian small pipes and introduced the audience to the nyckelharpa, a Scandinavian instrument resembling a violin with keys, whose sound harmonised beautifully with the pipes. The group was joined by local musicians, the Dunseverick Accordionayres. Mrs. Margaret Binnie, Chairman of the Coleraine and District Unicef Branch, thanked the musicians, the members of her committee for donating food and raffle prizes and the audience for their

attendance and support.
