Male Voice Choir celebrates 60th anniversary

They have invited the other male voice choirs in the province and are expecting a huge turnout of friends from the other choirs to join them as they did 10 years ago on their 50th anniversary.

Their conductor, Mr David Thompson, said: “We still remember the fantastic night we had ten years ago when the church was completely filled with members from the many different choirs and their friends, and we are looking forward enthusiastically to another wonderful evening of singing. We last came together as a massed choir in Kilkeel Presbyterian Church with the Mourne Singers last year in a packed church and are looking forward to renewing acquaintances.”

The Dromore choir was formed in 1955 by the late Dean Roland Hutchinson to promote the art of male voice singing and to contribute to charity.

Sixty years later the choir of around 30 members are still singing around the province and further afield from their varied repertoire of music as they support many churches and charities.

The offering from the anniversary service will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The choir is accompanied by Mrs Gertrude Jamison and the guest organist for the anniversary service will be Mr Stephen Hamill.
