Male voice choir winds up after 50 years of sweet song

LURGAN Male Voice Testimony Choir has folded after 50 years in action.

The decision has been taken as the choir has been unable to find a new conductor and the ageing and shrinking nature of the its membership.

Only last year the choir celebrated their 50th anniversary festival but there will be no Festival of Male Voice Praise in Lurgan this year.

The group thanked Mrs Frances Burns for her many years of faithful service in her dual role as pianist and treasurer.

They also thanked the minister and kirk session of Hill Street Presbyterian Church and the Pastor and Oversight of Lurgan Baptist Church for allowing them to use their premises over the last 50 years.

Choir Secretary, Raymond McDowell, also said the group would like to thank all their friends for their prayerful and practical support as they sought to present the Lord Jesus in church services for over 50 years.

He said: “On behalf of the choir, I would like to wish you all God’s richest blessing for 2010 and future years.”
