Man accused of possessing firearm in relation to alleged Upperlands Burglary

A 25-year-old County Derry man is to stand trial on charges relating to an aggravated burglary at a house in the Upperlands area last August.

William Hunter, of Carrowreagh Road in Garvagh, is accused of entering the property at Macknagh Road in the village with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm on another man - Shane McGonigle.

Hunter also faces charges of having a firearm or imitation firearm, possessing a sledge hammer to commit the offence, damaging household items, and assaulting female, Poppy Buchanan.

The alleged offences were all reported to have been committed on August 9 last year.

Hunter was returned, on bail, for arraignment at Londonderry Crown Court on August 25, when he appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

A defence certificate for one counsel was granted by District Judge Alan White.
