Man admits part in 'sustained' assault

A BALLYMENA man has been bound over to keep the peace for 12 months, on his own bail of £500, after admitting his part in a "sustained" assault.

Christopher Picken, now living at an address at Rathkyle, Antrim, admitted charges of criminal damage and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, when he appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The court was told that the Picken was among a group of men who broke a window during an incident in Ballykeel on December 12 and then attacked a man in the early hours of December 13, inflicting injuries including a suspected broken nose and tenderness to his ribs.

Picken admitted his involvement to police.

District Judge Des Perry told Picken his behaviour was “completely inappropriate”, adding: “You do not resort to violence in any circumstances.”

* Two other men charged in connection with the same incident are denying the charges against them and a contest date of April 22 has been fixed for their hearing.

Jamie Lee Love (20), of Colonsay Park, and Dean William Mark (22), of Shetland Gardens, are each accused of causing criminal damage, making threats to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Mark faces a further charge of making threats to damage property.
