Man altered his prescription

A 36-year-old man who altered a prescription in an attempt to get double the amount of drugs he was prescribed was given a conditional discharge last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Kelvin Jones, Drumgor Park, Craigavon, admitted, at a previous court, two charges of fraud by altering a prescription to obtain Diazepam and sertraline hydrochloride on April 16 last year. Sentencing in the case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

The court heard that on August 12 last year police were informed that the social services fraud unit had carried out an investigation into two prescriptions which had been altered. They were seized and Jones made an admission that he tried to get double the amount that was prescribed.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he believed the amount he was getting was not enough and wanted to obtain more.

Deputy District Judge, Mr John Connolly, said it was an exceptional and unfortunate case and imposed a conditional discharge for 12 months.
