Man assaulted wife during 'money row'

A BALLYCASTLE man who assaulted his wife during a 'row over money' has been fined £200.

Kevin Anthony Maybin (46), of Fairhead View, committed the offence on February 21 this year, North Antrim Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday.

A prosecutor said police spoke to Maybin’s wife who said she was assaulted by him.

The prosecutor said police were told there was a scuffle during which the woman had her arm twisted behind her back and she was pushed down stairs.

When arrested, Maybin replied to police: “Guilty as charged”.

A defence lawyer said the marriage was going through difficulties at the time and the defendant is now taking action with regards to his temper and anger management.

He said Maybin’s relationship with his wife is a slow process involving working things out.

The lawyer said at the time of the offence Maybin had lost his job and there were financial pressures and the row was over money.

He said there was drink involved.

The lawyer said the financial pressure was no excuse for what occurred.

District Judge Richard Wilson noted Maybin is now going to participate in counselling through his GP and he told the defendant: “Not for the first time stupid behaviour Maybin”.
