Man beaten about the legs in Londonderry paramilitary attack

A man was beaten about the legs in a paramilitary style attack in the Glenowen area of Londonderry on Tuesday night, July 12, according to the PSNI.

Police say they are investigating the attack, which took place around 11pm.

It was reported that a number of men forced their way into a house in the area and assaulted the male occupant. The man, aged in his 20s, sustained injuries to his legs as a result.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information regarding the attack to contact Detectives at Strand Road Police station on 101 quoting reference number 1677 12/07/16. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, in a separate and unconnected incident a house was paint-bombed in the nearby Creggan estate.

Sinn Féin councillor Kevin Campbell condemned the incident.

He said: “This attack on a family home in the Creggan area of the city last night was wrong and I utterly condemn it.

“Everyone should have the right to live free from fear of intimidation or attack in their own home.

“I would call on anyone with information on this incident to bring it forward to the PSNI.”
