Ciaran McQuillan, whose address was given to the court as Collingdale, Lurgan, was fined £120, with a £15 offender’s levy, last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for disorderly behaviour on July 12 this year.

He was also bound over in the sum of £500 to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for 12 months.

The court heard that at 1.45am McQuillan was seen in William Street, where he got into a verbal altercation with females in a car.

He threw a punch at one of them.

He repeatedly said ‘f—king b—ds’ while pointing at other males.

A police officer asked him to calm down and to stop swearing.

He told police: “F—k off, I’m not talking to you. I know why you are picking on me, it’s the 12th of July.”

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said McQuillan, himself, had been assaulted, and he reacted in a negative fashion.

He added that the defendant fully accepted that he had not behaved in the proper manner and he would apologise for what he
said.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said this seemed somewhat out of character but that the remarks made were completely unacceptable.
