Man bought fake driving licence at a pub in Dundalk

While applying for a UK driving licence a Lurgan man sent off a fake Republic of Ireland licence which he later claimed he had bought from a man in a Dundalk pub.

Liam Michael Jackson (38), Donnelly Gardens, admitted fraud by false representation that the Republic of Ireland licence was genuine on April 8.

He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months.

Craigavon Court heard that the defendant made an application for a UK licence and included a false Republic of Ireland licence.

When interviewed he said he had bought if from a man in a pub in Dundalk.

Mr Peter Murphy, representing the defendant, said Jackson had wrongly obtained the licence and thought he could send it off to get a valid UK licence. He had never held a licence.

District Judge, Mr Desmond Perry, said it was such a pathetic fraud Jackson would never have got away with it.
