A BALLYMENA man who smashed a pub window during a fight has been given an 18-month conditional discharge.

George Mitchell (42), of Wakehurst Park, was also ordered to pay compensation of 200 to the owner of the bar, when he appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Barrister Neil Rafferty said: “He was minding his own business when a fight broke out in the bar that spilled over and he was assaulted.

“He was very angry about that and he picked up a glass and threw it.

“He deeply regrets what he did,” Mr Rafferty added.

District Judge Des Perry said: “This is the sort of irresponsible behaviour I expect to find from someone younger than yourself.”
