Man caught with traffic cone in Dungannon fails to complete community service

A man who failed to complete his outstanding hours of community service has been given a suspended prison sentence and warned that any further offending will see him go to jail.

Paul Denny, 22, had been convicted of disorderly behaviour in Dungannon after he was spotted by police in Perry Street in the early hours of February 7 carrying a traffic cone.

After telling the officer to “f**k off it’s my cone”, the court heard how Denny swore at police before adopting a fighting stance and adding: “No harm, I’m only having the craic lad.”

Denny, of Ashley Gardens in Armagh, continually told the officers that he had no name and that he was homeless during the incident.

Handing down a one month sentence which he suspended for two years, District Judge John Meehan said: “He is still getting himself stocious drunk.

“Every intervention has been tried ... next time you will be going to jail,” he warned the defendant.
