Man charged with attempted murder refused bail

Stephen Mettleton, aged 34, of Rossmore Green, appeared at Laganside Court charged with attempted murder, intimidation, criminal damage and riotous assembly.

The charges relate to an incident on March 30, when a mob attacked the Portuguese victim’s home in Knockdhu Park.

Police, residents and homes in Ferris Avenue were also targeted.

A total of 26 people have so far been arrested by police in connection with the disorder.

Mr Mettleton has been remanded in custody to appear via videolink on July 17.
