Man charged with attempted murder residing in Ballymoney

A CIVIL servant facing charges linked to the murder of Kevin McDaid in 2009 could lose his home due to debt, the High Court heard on Thursday.

Aaron Beech, 24, from Windyhill Road, Coleraine, is accused of attempting to murder Damien Fleming on the same night as Mr McDaid was killed.

Under his bail terms Mr Beech was ordered to live outside the town and rents a second property in Ballymoney.

The judge refused to vary his bail to allow him to return to Coleraine.

The High Court heard Mr Beech was suspended from work without pay after his first court appearance and has suffered extreme financial pressures as a result.

A defence solicitor said he could not afford to meet his mortgage payments, and there was "a very real danger the family home could be lost".

Opposing bail, the prosecution said all of those charged in connection with Kevin McDaid's murder had been barred from the town, and this had helped alleviate tension in the community.

Refusing the bail variation, the judge said the conditions had been imposed "to prevent further violence".

So far, 11 people have been charged with Mr McDaid's murder.

The Catholic father-of-four was killed by a loyalist mob near his home in Somerset Drive in the Heights area of the town.
