Man charged with taking part in illegal republican parade in Lurgan

A man from the Republic of Ireland has been charged with taking part in an un-notified procession which took place in Lurgan's Kilwilkie estate last month.

The man was one of several people arrested following a parade by Republican Sinn Fein and the official opening of a memorial garden to 1916.

Seamus Raymond Byrne (51), The Orchard, Ardee, appeared today (Wednesday) at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The charge against him alleges that on May 28 he took part in an un-notified procession on May 28 this year.

When it was put to him he said that he understood the charge.

A police officer said that he believed he could connect the defendant with the charge.

The prosecution asked for the case to be adjourned until July 20 so that a full file could be obtained.
