Man dies after being struck by car

Tributes have poured in for the road traffic collision victim who died after being struck by a car in the early hours of Sunday between Banbridge and Portadown.

The victim, named locally as father-of three John Armstrong, was in his early 40s.

He died after getting out of a taxi on the Gilford Road just outside the Banbridge district around 2am.

Mr Armstrong was from Scotch Street in Portadown and was the partner of Emma and father of Sasha-Louise, Holly and Joel.

Locals said he had worked as a taxi driver.

SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly expressed her sympathy to Mr Robinson’s family.

She said her “thoughts were with the victim’s family”.

“This is tragic news and it will be absolutely heartbreaking for the family whose loved one has died,” she said.

Mr Armstrong’s funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Gilford Road around the time of the collision to contact them at the Collision Investigation Unit in Steeple Police Station or local police at Mahon Road Police Station on 101.
