Man faces Football Banning Order

A supporter faces the prospect of being hit with a Football Banning Order after being accused of being in possession of a flare at a Coleraine game.

Grant David Alcorn (24), of Elms Park, appeared at the town’s Magistrates Court on Monday, May 23, charged with possessing the flare at Coleraine’s last game of the season on May 6 this year - a crucial Europa League play-off at Coleraine Showgrounds against Glentoran which they lost 2-1.

A prosecutor told the court the case involves the alleged possession of a flare at a football match. At the conclusion of the case she will be potentially seeking a Football Banning Order, she added. Alcorn was in the dock and a police officer said she believed she could connect him to the charge. He has yet to enter a plea, and the case was adjourned until June. Alcorn left the court without any conditions imposed. Judge Liam McNally said the football season is practically over, apart from “the European dimension”.
