Man facing dangerous driving charges after cop suffers broken leg at Twelfth parade

A 43-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences, including dangerous driving, after a police officer was allegedly knocked down in Coagh on July 12. The charges include causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, failing to comply with road traffic direction by constable, failing to stop, failing to remain, and failing to report.

He is due to appear in Dungannon Magistrates Court on August 5.

It is understood the man suffered a broken leg during the alleged incident, and that his marked the only injury to a police officer on ‘one of the most successful Twelfths in recent years’.

Following the parades, PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Stephen Martin praised the day’s events.

“I am pleased today’s (Tuesday) Twelfth parades passed off largely successfully following months of preparation by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, together with many groups and partners,” he said.

“Regrettably one officer suffered injuries when he was knocked down by a vehicle in Coagh and I wish him a speedy recovery.

“However, this one injury is in stark contrast to the number of officers injured on the Twelfth in recent years.

“This has been one of the most successful Twelfths in recent years.”
