Man fined after he admitted making needless 999 calls

A Lurgan man was fined £150 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for making needless 999 calls.

Ian Roland (44) of Glenfield Road admitted causing annoyance or needless anxiety by persistently making use of an electronic communications network between January 18 and 21 this year.

The court heard police spoke to the defendant who became irate and told them to leave.

On another date they called at his house where they spoke to two members of an ambulance crew who had been called by the defendant on two separate occasions. He was abusive to them and closed the door.

Roland was warned not to use the 999 system except for a genuine emergency.

A solicitor said he had a lot of issues and suffered from alcohol addiction.

He added that the defendant had no explanation why he made the calls and could not remember making the call for the ambulance.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said Roland had a very limited record. He warned him that if he was back in court again for the same thing he faced the possibility of custody.
