Man fined for going through level crossing

A CASTLEROCK man has been fined £75 after he was found guilty of driving through a level crossing after the warning lights had commenced.

William Terrence McIntyre (73) of Seapark appeared at North Antrim Magistrates' Court on Friday following the incident at Castlerock Level Crossing on March 8 this year.

The court heard that Mr McIntyre was observed driving through the crossing after the red lights had come on.

The defendant later admitted to police he had been driving his car on Sea Road that day, but added he could not remember going through the crossing once the sequence had started.

The defence said Mr McIntyre was the third car in a row waiting to cross the tracks and the lights had only been activated as he went through the barriers.

District Judge Paul Copeland said the defendant's conduct was 'reckless and irresponsible' and ordered him to pay 89 court costs.
