Man fined for operating as an illegal taxi driver

A Portadown man was fined £250 for acting as an illegal taxi, Craigavon Magistrates Court has heard.

Mr Milan Ihnat of Mourneview House, Portadown, also had his driver’s licence endorsed with six penalty points.

He pleaded guilty to the offences of having no insurance, no Taxi Drivers Licence, no Public Service Vehicle Licence and no Taxi Operators Licence.

He was fined £250 for having no insurance and had his driving licence endorsed with six penalty points.

He received a 12 month conditional discharge on the remaining charges.

Plus he was also ordered to pay an offender levy of £15.

On 25 September 2015 a Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) Enforcement Officer noted a car driven by Mr Ihnat stop outside a food processing factory in Portadown with four male passengers on board.

Mr Ihnat was observed receiving payment from the front seat passenger before they alighted from the vehicle.

Further investigation was carried out at the scene and follow up checks revealed that Mr Ihnat did not hold a Taxi Drivers Licence.

Plus it was also revealed that the vehicle was not licensed or insured for use as a Public Service Vehicle.

The charges were brought under the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981, the Taxis Act (NI) 2008 and the Public Service Vehicle Regulations (NI) 1985.
