Man flees Mourneview

A MAN has been forced out of his house in the Mourneview estate.

The man, understood to be in early twenties, had been subject to a series of attacks on himself and his property.

The latest attack on his house on the Mourne Road came last Thursday night at 9.15pm when the front window of the property was smashed and a lighted accelerant (believed to be petrol) thrown into the front room which was extensively damaged.

The window beside the front door, which appears to be bulletproof glass, bore the brunt of what is understood to have been a previous attack.

It is not the first time the house has been targeted, just last month the ‘MAIL’ reported on an arson attack at the same address. A burnt out car in Brookhill has also been linked to the campaign to drive the man and his associates out of the area.

It’s believed the man has also been attacked himself on a number of occasions.

Police and fire crews attended the scene of Thursday’s attack and are appealing for witnesses to the incident and would remind those responsible of the dangers of their actions.

A spokesperson said: “Fire can quickly become unpredictable and uncontrollable, and spread to adjoining properties. This kind of action can lead to serious injury or even death.”
