Man found dead hours after altercation

A 42-year-old Londonderry man believed to have been punched during an altercation in the city centre in the early hours of Tuesday (February 5) has died.

The man was involved in an altercation with a group of males in the Shipquay Gate area of Derry City Centre, at around 2.50am on Tuesday.

The victim is believed to have been punched by another male and he then fell to the ground. Police are keen to speak to a person who assisted the victim. Police are also keen to speak to the group of males and anyone who was in the area at the time.

The victim was later found deceased at a property in John Street at around 10am on Tuesday, February 5.

Police are not treating this death as supicious following the results of a Post Mortem examination.
