Man found dead in Portrush this morning believed to be from Cookstown

The man whose body was discovered at the roadside in Portrush by a member of the public on Sunday morning, is understood to be from the Cookstown area.

Found on the Dunluce Road at around 9am, police sealed off the road as their investigation into his death got under way.

Although a formal identification is yet to be carried out, he has been named locally.

Tributes have been paid to the popular local online, with many extending their sympathies to his family at this tragic time.

One close friend said: “The world will not be the same without you.”

Enquiries are ongoing in to the cause of his death with a post mortem due to be carried out on Monday morning.

Chief Inspector Mark McClarence said: “At this time the cause of death is unclear and as such the Dunluce Road will remain closed between Skerries caravan park and Ballybogey Road until after the post mortem tomorrow morning.

The man has not yet been formally identified however we are following a definite line of enquiry.”
