Man found guilty of drink driving

A COLERAINE man has been been disqualified from driving for a year and given a £250 fine after he was found guilty of driving with excess alcohol.

North Antrim Magistrates' Court heard that Adam Ross Smallwoods (25) of 1 Granary Court, was stopped by police on the Castlerock Road on December 18 last year.

Officers could smell alcohol on his breath and took him to Coleraine Police Station where he gave a sample of breath found to be twice the legal limit.

Defence said that Smallwoods had been at a friend’s house on the night in question playing poker. Although he hadn't planned to drink he relented late in the evening and had two beers.

Court heard that Smallwoods was deeply embarassed by the incident and that he had recently left his employment to start up his own car sales business and that his car was his lifeblood.

In sentencing Smallwoods, District Judge, Richard Wilson, said that he hoped he had learned his lesson.
