Man had '˜some verbals' after being removed from nightclub

Lee Purdy (23), of Brookfield Gardens, Ahoghill, admitted disorderly behaviour at Rainey Street car park, Magherafelt, on May 8 this year.

Imposing the prison sentence at Magherafelt Magistrates Court, District Judge Alan White noted that Purdy was in breach of seven suspended jail sentences.

Mr White said there were no positives in the pre-sentence report and it seemed to be a struggle for the defendant to cooperate with the Probation Service.

He added the sentences would have to be put into operation or else the law would be brought into disrepute.

The court heard that in the early hours of the morning police on duty observed Lee being escorted from a nightclub by door staff.

A prosecuting lawyer said the defendant immediately became very aggressive and rushed at the gates, which the door staff were forced to close, kicking out a number of times.

He said police warned the defendant to calm down but he continued in an aggressive manner shouting profanities at police.

A defence lawyer explained that the defendant had lifted his girlfriend in his arms and door staff got the wrong impression about what was going on and removed him.

He said there were some verbals at the time but he did calm down and apologise.

The lawyer said while Purdy has suspended sentences in respect of driving and drugs offences, he has managed to find full time employment for the first time.

District Judge White also ordered Purdy to pay an offender’s levy of £25.
